Meet Pierre Gutierrez
Originally from Oran in Algeria, it was in 1962, at the age of 12, that Pierre Gutierrez joined Marseille, located on the shores of the Mediterranean, where he studied, then later worked in publishing, drawing and advertising.
It was in 1998 that he moved to Carnoux-en-Provence, his current city. Nothing predestined him for watercolor, but forced by the loss of his activity and a little by chance, his life took a new turn. Discovering the watercolours of the watercolour painter Marius Pauzat (1832-1909) he was amazed and made them his passion. Knowing how to make the most of his qualities as a graphic designer, he began to explore this unknown technique. The pleasure is immediate because he quickly discovers his own expression.
Since then, he has not stopped painting. His preference, he irresistibly gives to landscapes. The seaside inspires him, then the urban views animated by characters enrich his work.
Retired, his decision to share his know-how is taken. Since then, within his own self-employed company, he has initiated a few students in search of artistic knowledge into this technique.
Historically influenced by the Provençal masters Jean-Batiste Olive and Raphaël Ponson and the impressionists Claude Monet and Williams Turner, the click for watercolour will be at the age of 48 during an exhibition on the painter Marius Pauzat, made for him, within the family.
For 20 years, his art fairs, exhibitions and competitions in the south of France have been crowned with success and his work has been recognized in cities, tourist and cultural highlights such as Aix-en-Provence, Cassis, Saint- Rémy de Provence and Uzès. He has exhibited for 3 years in Philadelphia.
His landscapes that have traveled to the four corners of the world are a reflection of his personality, summed up in these three words: Passion, time and sensitivity. It’s a part of him that he reveals. Why not enjoy it?
