One of the most beautiful birds in the world that spends most of its times on the forest floor. It hops exceeding fast, flicks its tail up and down and nods its head. It is quite confiding if you sit still in a suitable area of jungle floor (avoiding pythons) for a couple of hours! There are five sub species that occur from Thailand South to Java but the Thai sub species with its banding and deep blue underparts is the pick of the bunch.

The Banded Pitta is is threatened by lowland forest destruction (oil palms and rubber tree plantations) and it is taken as a cage bird too. What a fate for this avian jewel. Painting size: 50 x 40 cm

Like all my paintings proceeds will go to Rainforest Conservation so buy a painting and help these birds too!
