This painting is a meditation on mortality. The carnival is 'life', the woman is old and though dressed in her finery, the end of al this beckons. Yet she still clings onto life, the dancing fish distracting her from the inescapable truth coming towards her. The carnival, though coming to an end, still has the power to entrance...

The painting is on canvas, done in acrylics with collage added and painted, primarily to add texture.
