True Grid

In my ever quest for roundism I was attracted to the female body’s position showing diagonals and triangles. I tried to counterbalance them by throwing in some vertical and horizontal lines. Although not very dominant they still put the model into some kind of grid. However, round and diagonal structures are rendered with heavy tonal differences. That is due to my love for cubists and art deco artists like Tamara de Lempicka. Her roundish features are an inspirational source for the conal looking legs and buttocks in this graphite pencil drawing.

Singularity

There were some hints to my definition of singularity. Even though I am not much of a mathematician this one keeps me fascinating. Apparently there are phenomena at the outer brink of our space-time world that seem to become endless. Gravitational singularity in black holes is such an event. I came to realize such singular appearanches also are closer to home. A line for that matter is a singular thing because when there is a height it becomes a rectangle. Also the phenomenon of a curve approaching a straight line but mathematically never will touch it. They symbolize all things endless also in a non-physical way, like fluid definitions of love or beauty. I often think of the endless possibilties art has to offer me and I hope in time it will show in my work.

The Final Result – an Oil

The drawing itself resulted in an oil ‘Roundism – 13-03-18’ I sold two years later. That one was much about the application of a luministic color palette. The singular theory is an integral part though. What I stated here on singularity mutatis mutandis naturally applies for the oil as well.
