It is time to put down a kind of art statement concerning roundism for a change. Lately I came to think about my kind of art a lot. Certainly did I get inspired by comments and questions like what kind of style my art is. Frankly I do not know but I know this one thing. For all I know I want to lead people through my way of seeing things. Breaking up complex things like human bodies into sub forms is a key feature. This one is no different from the previous graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 04-06-18’. Such a proces is just another classic artistic way of learning the trade. Back in the day students in art schools were instructed to see as many basic geometric shapes in a bottle of Bordeaux as possible. Consequently it is a thing I still teach in my art classes.
One can say I just took finding and depicting simplified geometric forms to a different level. Moreover, the goal is to find ways to discover whether beauty and emotion can be captured in essential forms. A long time ago I thought about a critical thing. What makes an object recognizable and gives it beauty? From what breaking point does the viewer associate individual features making up the object with the actual object. What if I would be able to tweak these features a bit so people still would make the association?
In fact, I consider my surrealist tweakings no different from the geometric ones. The first is create an ambiguous image, the second is about abstraction. The pun and the fun lies in pulling an artistic leg. A magician likes to trick people and give them an evening of wonders. Why would artists like me think differently. Upon my word, I can show you more than just the shape of things!
