The features of the tree branches and the church inspired me to do a cubist drawing. It is rendered in the same style as my graphite pencil drawing ‘Dordrecht – 07-12-17’. This one is more hefty though from a tonal point of view. I started with the tree and I rendered it in my roundism style. I also strongly focused on the tonality at the same time. It all was about blocking the lights on the church. The branches of the tree were only slightly different from the dark sky from a tonal perspective. That proved to be a tough cookie but necessary in order to avoid a dark lumpy void altogether. It was working hard to hatch up the paper to an almost blackness but rewarding though. All in all this has been a great experiment.
