Realism versus Roundism
Through my last drawing ‘Roundism – 19-10-19’ I got inspired to delve into the world of realism versus roundism again. I abstracted the body in this work even more and kept the hand and foot realistic in order to have the viewer interpret the cubist shapes to be a body scape. I liked the compact body position because it allowed me to abstract it to the max.
Straight versus Round
Next to the process of abstrating as described above I also wanted to include some angular and straight forms in order to put the stress on the rectangular body position. Aforementioned previous drawing I found very round and since the essence of my personal roundism style is obvious for everyone to see, straight lines contrast round forms in a pleasing way and even underlign the beauty of the curve.
Chiaroscuro
All those abstract, straight and round forms are very fine but it is the kingdom of tonal values that I like to dwell in every time. Therefor I employed a lot of clairobscurity for two reasons: a) it gives all forms nice plasticity and b) to compensate for the rectangular body scape through a light / dark division a nice diagonal came into existence. It runds from the lower left up to the upper right corner. The dark curve at the right leads the eye to the lowest position and through the hands and toes back to left side again.
